FREEMASONRY
~ A WAY OF LIFE ~

Greetings from the East

Time flies and we continue to keep busy.  We will be performing some degrees coming up in July and if you would like to be a part of these degrees especially the 3rd degrees, I would encourage you to join us at Arcadia on July 9 at 7:00 PM for the next meeting of the Oblong Square Club.  If there is a part you would like to learn, come out and we will help you learn a part and get involved in Masonry.  There is something about being a part of raising a brother into this great fraternity that is one of the rewarding experiences we can all share as brothers.
I think these are the opportunities some of you are looking for to become involved in meeting new members with like minds of working to spread that cement of brotherly love and friendship.  We can make a difference but we must start discussing what or who we want to help or influence.  We can get our name out by walking in the Fourth of July parade contact Jeremy Davis if you are interested, his information appears below.  We can raise funds with something as simple as a pasta supper, working food service, or helping work at or play on a team in a golf tournament.  Hey, that reminds me…
We are sponsoring the golf tournament on July 11th at Homewood Golf Course in Ames and we need to get the word out as well as a few workers.  There is to be a mention of it in the newsletter as well.  If you are interested in playing in this 9-hole, early bird (6:00AM shotgun start), 4-Man best shot tournament to raise funds for the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge please contact Jeremy Davis at 515-291-7016 or  by email at jeremyndavis@gmail.com.  This should be a fun morning and take only a few hours to put on that day with some help from you brothers.
I think that it is great that we can do something like this to help the Grand Lodge project but what else can we do to help another cause in Ames or Story County?  Brothers I am looking to you to give me ideas.  I am not very good at knowing those needs being from another community, as well as county, I get distracted with my own problems or concerns.  I am not perfect but with your help we can start making those kinds of differences or we can start this year and work towards making David Baker’s year the best Arcadia has had yet.  People know about Arcadia Lodge and what we have done so far.
I know that some of you think that it is important to garner the Lodge of the Year Award.  I think that it is too, but only if it is uniting us as brothers, working toward a cause together as brothers, and having fellowship as brothers.  We are not planning a meal in July due to lack of interest when we have had some of the other appendant bodies preparing meals and we have only 10-12 people show up it is not fair to the people putting in the work on these meals.  I suggest that you come out by 7 if you want to have some fellowship prior to the stated meeting or stay around following the meeting to share some stories and ideas on July 2nd.   I look forward to hearing from some of you and seeing some of you at the meeting.   I plan to have a Sweet Corn and Bologna feed prior to the August meeting or if the sweet corn is ready in late July so stay tuned to the Arcadia Alerts.
I mentioned the Oblong Square Club earlier for the study group on July 9th and that we will be hosting at Arcadia.  I again invite you to that meeting.  The other bit of OSC news is that the club will be having a family potluck picnic and this will take place in Madrid at the lodge there.  Families are welcome and there will be no actual ritual work planned for that night, just a night of fellowship for any who can come.
I want to remind you that tickets are available for the annual Table Lodge on the night of Friday, July 17th for $25 with a social hour, meal, and speaker.  Bob Allen says that this is his last year to MC so you may want to be there for Bob’s final performance as Master.
As always, I thank you for the honor of serving as your master and look forward to continuing to serve.

Fraternally,
Paul Miller
Worshipful Master
