Greetings from the East

Brothers this is my final installment for this newsletter.  It has been a year filled with some trying issues for me in my personal life and I thank you for your patience with my shortcomings.
We had a great turnout for the Past Masters recognition dinner.  We had 8-9 visitors who were Past Masters along with 19 Past Masters in attendance from Arcadia.  Bryce Hildreth presented one of the newest DL’s with his certificate.  Brother Bill Yungclas has now received his District Lecturer certificate and can be counted on as the local expert in ritual.  So feel free to direct all ritual questions to him.  I would also like to thank Dave and Marty for their efforts in putting together a short program and Amaranth for a great meal.
At the last stated meeting officers were elected and I think that the Lodge has made some excellent choices for our elected leaders.  David Baker will be serving as your Worshipful Master, Martin Jacobs as the Senior Warden, Fredrick Killian as the Junior Warden, Chad Melohn as Treasurer, and Dan Shaffer will be taking over at Secretary.  They have already begun planning for the upcoming year and will offer many opportunities for brothers to get involved in Masonry and continuing to spread some brotherly love and affection.  Brothers, I ask that you all be ready to offer your support and wisdom to these brothers and help make Arcadia the best lodge in the state.
The installation of officers is planned for Sunday, December 13th and will begin at 3:00 PM.  The stated meeting is December 3 and I think that we will have the elected officers opening the lodge in their new positions.  Do not forget to sign up for the meal prior to the stated meeting either at the lodge or responding to the Arcadia Alerts.
With December also comes the traditional Holiday dinner and that is planned for Saturday December 12th with a social hour at 5:30 and the meal to follow.  Cost for the meal is $10 and is quite a bargain in my experience.  We will continue to collect toys for the Toys for Tots program, so anyone who would like to contribute can bring an unwrapped toy and they will be taken to the appropriate location for distribution.  You can bring toys from now until the installation to support this worthy cause.
If you are looking for an opportunity to brush up on your ritual work the Oblong Square Club will be meeting in Boone at 7 P. M., on December 10th, 2009.  If I am not mistaken they will be working on the second section of the 3rd degree.  This would be an opportunity for any brother to come and learn and part in order to participate in our labors and privileges as Masons.
I mentioned earlier that this was my last installment and I want to thank you for the opportunity to serve.  I had some high hopes for my year and was hoping to bring some brothers together and work on building unity in our lodge.  I like to think that we made some steps in the right direction even if we occasionally stumbled on the journey.  That is what we are pursuing in our Masonic journey, duty to our country, to our brothers (Masonic and non-Masonic), and to ourselves.   In living day to day we need to be aware of the opportunities that arise, even in the smallest ways, to spread some cement. Things as simple as a phone call to see how someone is doing, sharing a cup of coffee, or a pat on the back and telling someone they have done a good job.
Brothers, I encourage you to seek out the opportunities to spread some brotherly love and affection to people around you.  Those occasions can be some of the most rewarding experiences in your lives and will provide you a legacy for being known as caring for your fellow creatures.

Fraternally submitted,
Paul Miller
Worshipful Master
