Greetings from the East:
I hope all of you that were interested in seeing the show on the 24th contacted Paul by the 15th of this month. It should be a nice evening for those in attendance. Coming in April there will be a picnic outing. The date and location still aren't set but I will keep you posted if you have an interest in attending. Further ahead in May will be our usual Eldora get together and in June we will be having a paintball experience.
Feburary is a short month but Arcadia Lodge is still managing to fit in some degree work. On the 22nd of this month we will be performing two 1st degrees. I really hope to see some new and old faces in attendance. Our stated meeting attendance has been phenomenal but our degree work attendance, where we really should shine has been terrible. I challenge you all to at least watch one degree in the coming months if not participate in one.
Have you been on our web site lately? http://www.iowamasons.com/249.htm . Brother Dan Shaffer continues to be our Web Master and does a magnificent job of keeping things up to date, plus he is always adding new items. Check out the site, look at the calendar, the pictures of our newest brothers, read Brother Jay Cole Simser's web surfing travels, and the many other neat features.
We are still holding weekly practices on Sundays at 4:30 P.M. for anyone interested in learning degree work. This coming Sunday, February 18th, we will be practicing the first degree.
Don't forget our stated meeting March 1 at 7:30 P.M. with the $5 dinner at 6:30 P.M.

Greetings from the East
Planning for the year of 2007 has been started and we have many exciting events planned for this year. The next upcoming event will be in February, It will be a show night at Stephens Auditorium. We will be getting a group of tickets for those interested. Contact Paul Miller if you wish to attend with the group. In March, we will be having a scholarship fundraiser night, in April we will be having a picnic, in May we will have our usual Eldora tug of war competition and dinner, and in June we will be having a paintball outing. I hope to see many of you participating in at least one if not all of these exciting and fun events.
This last Saturday we had a Holiday dinner where we gathered to honor three of our brothers for their devoted service to our lodge. The brothers honored were Dan Shaffer, Don Rhead and Jim Sears. It was a great time and it was close to if not the most support for a dinner I have seen in my time as a mason at Arcadia Lodge. I appreciated all those that came, and I am sure Don, Jim, and Dan were proud and honored of the support you all showed for them.
We have many degrees lined up this month as we always do. It would be great to see some new faces attending some of the degree work to make the best impression on our candidates and new brothers. We will also be holding practices on Sundays from 4:30 - 6:00 at the lodge to brush up our degree work and for any brother that has an interest in learning a part instead of always sitting on the sidelines.
Don't forget our stated meeting February 1 at 7:30 P.M. with the 5$ dinner at 6:30 P.M.
I hope the year ahead will be as exciting for all of you as it is sure to be for me.

Greetings from the East
This newsletter will be my last official act as Master of Arcadia Lodge. It is hard to believe it has been a year already, but as I reflect on all Arcadia Lodge accomplished, it is no wonder the year flew by! I would like to review some of the highlights of the past year.
The year started strong as we were busy with Degree work, even doing a couple 3rds one Saturday in January. Needless to say, the new line quickly learned their various Degree parts. This steady flow of Degree work continued throughout 2006 and the line and many others helped make each Degree a special night for the brother. Thank you to the line, and all who helped this year. To Brothers Bill Yungclas & Rollen Phillips, a special thank you for working with us when we were able to squeeze a practice in.
A first for many of us was the Cornerstone Laying Ceremony held at the New Ames Middle School the end of April. Brother Jim Dickson did a magnificent job as Orator, and all the brothers who participated or attended did a great job as well.
May started our first tour of working breakfasts at ISU to raise money for the scholarship fund. We also did some more breakfast work in July. Thank you to all the brothers who volunteered a shift or more and special thanks to Brother Bill Yungclas for organizing the shifts. Speaking of scholarships, Arcadia Lodge gave a $750 cash scholarship to an Ames High School student and then the Iowa Grand Lodge added four $2000 scholarships to four additional Ames High School students. I had the honor to present these scholarships and still think of that as one the highlights of my time as Master. We also had our annual picnic and tug of war with Montague Lodge of Eldora at Pine Lake . While we lost the tug of war this year a great time was enjoyed by all. Thank you Brother Doug Petty for organizing this event.
In July, Brother Jeremy Davis hosted what I think was the best Table Lodge to date. We had a dynamite speaker and the largest crowd we have had for a Table Lodge. I can't wait until 2007 because I know this event continues to get bigger and better!
September was Grand Lodge and Arcadia Lodge once again, due to the hard work of every brother, was named Gold Lodge winner for Iowa for a 3rd straight time! Arcadia Lodge is growing and active and this award is testament to that fact.
October was our annual hayride and even though it was a cold windy autumn afternoon, the wagon was packed to the hilt with brothers, their families, and some new prospects-one of which I know for sure is in the middle of taking his Degrees presently! It was great to see such a mix of young and old having a fun time.
November was our elections and then I knew there was light at the end of the tunnel. J
Brother Josh Tostlebe was elected and installed the following month. I know Josh will do a great job!
Brothers and friends, it was a fast year, a productive year, a fun year, and at times a challenging year. I enjoyed it immensely and thank you for your trust in me to let me hold the office of Master in 2006 at Arcadia Lodge. I did my best and hope I met your expectations. Thank you to the line for all your dedicated work. Thank you to the brothers for all your support and all the things each of you did-most without any recognition. I am looking forward to sitting on the sidelines and helping where I canŠŠ.quietly.
Steve Gwiasda, WM
